How the GST calculator works
GST, or Goods and Services Tax, is a tax applied to the supply of goods and services in India. This calculator can calculate GST both by adding GST to a price and by removing GST from a GST-inclusive price.
Adding GST
When you have a price before GST, the GST amount is calculated using the GST rate and then added to the original price.
Removing GST
When the amount already includes GST, the pre-GST price can be calculated by dividing the total by one plus the GST rate.
GST examples
GST = ₹1,000 × 18% = ₹180. The total price including GST is ₹1,180.
GST = ₹2,000 × 5% = ₹100. The total price including GST is ₹2,100.
The price before GST is ₹1,000 and the GST component is ₹180.
Common GST rates
The calculator includes several commonly used GST rates:
5% • 12% • 18% • 28%
The applicable GST rate depends on the specific goods or services and applicable tax rules. Always confirm the correct rate for your particular transaction.
